Port Willunga Beach House
The client, a successful builder with a young active family, engaged us to create a particular look and feel for his beach side holiday home. The brief was to create an environment that contrasts with his utilitarian city residence, whilst paying homage to his childhood family country home.
The design intent quickly became about creating an easy living getaway, with user friendly spaces for all seasons. The boundaries between interior and exterior spaces were to be blurred, cultivating in flexible spaces that are cosy in winter and breathe in summer. The incorporation of both internal and external cooking and lounge zones heightens this relationship, whilst providing a variety of living hubs throughout the house.
A rustic palette of natural materials, including raw stone, solid timber and metals, as well as the inclusion of traditional elements such as open fireplaces, was utilized to enhance the country feel desired by the client; as well as providing a robust environment so their four children can run amuck.
